We are indeed fortunate to benefit from having the services of a coach who has had extensive involvement in a premiership club and who also gained a wealth of knowledge during a career as a successful top flight athlete and rugby player. Barry Walsh was educated in Limerick, Ireland and represented both Munster and Ireland at senior schoolboy level. After graduating from Crescent College he took up a sports scholarship in the United States, specialising and competing in the decathlon. He became the American East Coast Champion for three consecutive years and also achieved All American honours in 1988. He won a bronze medal in the decathlon at the European Junior Championships in 1987 and was British Champion in 1993. After competing in the World Championships in 1993, he then turned his attention back to rugby. During his last five years as a rugby player he obtained caps for the Ireland A team and played for London Irish in a professional capacity before his career was cut short by injury.
